Senior Manager, Laboratory Operations

Location: DeLand, Florida | Work Type: Onsite | Employment Type: Permanent

2. Compensation

Salary Range: $97,100 - $148,700 per year

Annual Performance Bonus: $7,500

Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and performance within the established salary band.

5. Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Laboratory Operations is responsible for leading day-to-day technical and operational functions within the laboratory, ensuring smooth execution of processes, regulatory compliance, and teammate development. This role provides hands-on leadership for laboratory teams and serves as a critical bridge between frontline operations and senior leadership.

Reporting to the Director, Laboratory Operations, this position requires a strategic leader who creates an inspiring vision for the future, empowers their team to achieve success, and thrives on tackling difficult problems through collaborative, team-based approaches. The ideal candidate takes ownership of results, instills accountability, communicates effectively, and finds fulfillment in challenging work that directly impacts patient care.

6. Must-Haves

  • Medical Technologist registry certification (ASCP, NCA, AAB, or equivalent)
  • Florida Supervisor license
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related sciences
  • Minimum 5+ years of laboratory leadership experience in a high-volume, high-complexity testing environment
  • Proven track record of leading teams, driving process improvements, and managing operational performance
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory regulatory standards (CAP, CLIA, federal, and state regulations)
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams

7. Primary Functions

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee assigned laboratory lanes to ensure they meet performance, quality, and financial targets
  • Monitor data and key performance metrics to make informed decisions about staffing, resources, and workflow optimization
  • Support standardization of processes, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Partner with leadership on long-term planning for service line growth and operational improvements

Team Development & Leadership

  • Lead and engage laboratory supervisors and frontline teams to foster a culture of accountability, belonging, and high performance
  • Mentor emerging leaders, focusing on professional growth and succession planning
  • Drive cross-shift and cross-department communication to support operational excellence

Regulatory Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure laboratory testing is performed accurately, documented properly, and compliant with applicable regulatory requirements
  • Oversee quality control and quality assurance programs to maintain the highest standards of laboratory services

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers, ensuring service excellence
  • Resolve operational issues and client concerns in a timely, professional manner

Strategic Initiatives

  • Support strategic initiatives, projects, and continuous improvement activities as assigned
  • Contribute to organizational goals and operational excellence across the laboratory division

8. Required Skills

  • Laboratory Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage high-volume, high-complexity laboratory operations with multiple team members
  • Process Improvement: Proven track record of driving process improvements, optimizing workflows, and implementing operational enhancements
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of CAP, CLIA, and federal and state laboratory regulations and compliance requirements
  • Performance Management: Experience managing operational metrics, financial targets, quality standards, and team performance
  • Strategic Planning: Ability to contribute to long-term planning and align laboratory operations with organizational goals
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly convey information to diverse audiences
  • Collaboration & Influence: Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and work effectively across departments and shift rotations
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and make data-informed decisions
  • Accountability & Ownership: High level of accountability with the ability to take ownership of results and drive team accountability

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Business Administration or relevant sciences
