Job Description

Position Summary

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall success of Heights Bar & Grill, overseeing all front- and back-of-house operations. The GM leads the team, ensures an outstanding guest experience, drives financial performance, and upholds the highest standards of food, beverage, and service quality. This role requires a hands-on leader who can balance day-to-day operational demands with long-term strategic planning for the business.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing team of managers, servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff.
  • Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular evaluations, and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Build and maintain staff schedules that ensure appropriate coverage while managing labor costs.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and safe work environment that supports employee retention.

Guest Experience

  • Ensure every guest receives prompt, friendly, and attentive service that reflects the Heights Bar & Grill brand.
  • Respond to guest feedback and resolve complaints professionally and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor dining room, bar, and overall venue atmosphere to maintain a welcoming, high-energy environment.
  • Maintain consistent food and beverage quality and presentation standards.

Financial & Business Operations

  • Own the P&L for the location, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for food, beverage, and labor.
  • Analyze sales trends and financial reports to identify opportunities for revenue growth and expense reduction.
  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee inventory and ordering of food, beverage, and supplies.
  • Implement pricing, promotions, and marketing initiatives in partnership with ownership to drive traffic and sales.

Compliance & Safety

  • Maintain and renew all required licenses and permits, including liquor licensing.
  • Ensure full compliance with health department regulations, food safety standards, and responsible alcohol service laws.
  • Enforce workplace safety policies and maintain a clean, hazard-free environment for staff and guests.
  • Verify staff certifications (e.g., food handler and alcohol service certifications) remain current.

Operations

  • Develop, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures across all departments.
  • Oversee opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and point-of-sale system management.
  • Coordinate with kitchen leadership on menu execution, food cost management, and quality control.
  • Plan and execute private events, promotions, and special occasions (e.g., game days, live music, holidays).
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager in a bar, restaurant, or hospitality setting.
  • Proven track record of managing P&L, budgets, and cost controls.
  • Strong knowledge of food and beverage operations, including bar/liquor service.
  • Experience with POS systems, scheduling software, and inventory management tools.
  • Food Handler and Alcohol Service certifications (e.g., ServSafe, TIPS) required, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Hospitality Management, Business, or related field preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to a full shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs (e.g., kegs, inventory boxes, equipment).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with varying noise and temperature levels.
