Job Description

Executive Director – San Diego Mountain Biking Association (SDMBA)

Are you passionate about outdoor recreation and trail advocacy? Do you have the leadership skills to drive a dynamic nonprofit organization to new heights? The San Diego Mountain Biking Association (SDMBA) is looking for an Executive Director (ED) to lead our team, grow our community impact, and advocate for sustainable trail access in San Diego County.

About Us

Since 1994, SDMBA has been improving trail access, promoting stewardship, and building community across San Diego County. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we work closely with land managers, volunteers, and advocacy partners to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities while balancing conservation needs. From trail maintenance and construction to guided rides and community events, we are at the forefront of sustainable land-use practices and equitable outdoor access.

About the Role

The Executive Director (ED) will serve as the chief strategist and ambassador for SDMBA, leading the organization into its next chapter of growth and impact. This dynamic leader will oversee daily operations, financial health, and productive relationships with key stakeholders. The ED will work closely with staff, volunteers, and the Board of Directors (BoD) to implement the 2024-2029 Strategic Plan, expand community engagement, and strengthen SDMBA’s identity as a collaborative partner and trail advocacy leader.

The ED will also supervise and provide strategic guidance to the Trail Coordinator, ensuring alignment between trail services, organizational goals, and community needs. While the Trail Coordinator will retain responsibility for operational aspects of trail services, the ED will lead this division from a strategic and advocacy perspective, maintaining oversight of major projects and partnerships.

The ideal candidate is a skilled and inspiring leader with nonprofit experience, a passion for outdoor recreation, and the ability to manage diverse responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. This person will focus on high-level organizational leadership, fundraising, and stakeholder management while delegating day-to-day event planning and community development to appropriate staff, Board Members, and/or volunteers. A strong emphasis will be placed on advancing SDMBA’s mission through leadership in advocacy, trail services, and community engagement.

This is a full-time, exempt position based in San Diego County, offering a competitive salary and opportunities for professional growth.
