Overview

The Tufts University Investment Office manages the university’s permanent endowment assets. Our mission is to deliver outstanding long-term investment returns that directly support and sustain Tufts' world-class educational, research, and civic mission.

We manage our capital primarily by identifying, underwriting, and partnering with an elite global network of external investment managers across public equities, private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, and real assets. What You'll Do

This role of Assistant Director, Investments works directly alongside the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and colleagues in a generalist capacity, evaluating opportunities across all asset classes and geographies. Engaging in primary qualitative and quantitative research, meeting world-class investors, and participating fully in the internal investment team meetings.

  • Sourcing & Screening: Actively identify and screen high-potential investment managers globally, leveraging independent research, industry networks, and data-driven insights.
  • Investment Due Diligence: Serve as a core member of underwriting teams. Conduct rigorous manager due diligence, evaluating investment theses, track records, operational structures, and alignment of interests.
  • Investment Underwriting: Author clear, structured, and succinct investment memos to articulate underwriting convictions.
  • Relationship Management: Maintain deep, long-term partnerships with current and prospective managers, acting at all times with humility, professionalism, and a true partner orientation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Investment Operations, Legal, and Data teams to optimize investment sizing, negotiate terms, and ensure seamless execution.
  • Global Travel: Travel domestically and internationally to conduct in-person due diligence, and attend Annual General Meetings (AGMs).
  • Team Mentorship & Development: Play an active role in our apprenticeship culture by helping train, mentor, and collaborate with junior analysts, guiding them on underwriting frameworks, financial modeling, and manager research.


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 plus years of experience in investment management including at an endowment, family office, private equity/venture capital fund, Fund of funds, public equity fund.
  • More than five years of directly related experience
  • Intellectual Curiosity & Honesty: A persistent self-starter who embraces learning with humility, values constructive debate, and is comfortable navigating ambiguity and conflicting opinions.
  • Analytical Rigor: Exceptional quantitative capability balanced by the ability to extract meaningful qualitative insights from complex, unstructured information.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to synthesize deep research into tight, logical arguments.
  • Mission Alignment: A strong desire to utilize your financial acumen to make a lasting, positive institutional impact supporting higher education and research.


Pay Range

Minimum $206,400.00, Midpoint $258,000.00, Maximum $309,600.00

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
